Down Syndrome Association of Miami
Down Syndrome Association of Miami is an organization whose mission is to educate the Miami-Dade community about Down syndrome and promote positive acceptance of individuals and families living with Down syndrome. DSAOM provides various services and support to participants and loved ones involved. The services provided can include swimming, soccer, baseball, dance and gift certificates and baskets for new members, speech therapy groups, language enrichment programs, hippotherapy. The events hosted by the program include the annual Miracle Walk and monthly picnics.
Swimming
This is me at the recreational center site where swimming is being held for the involved participants. This activity is held from the morning to late afternoon, for individuals of all ages, then categorized into age-appropriate groups. Here, loved ones can watch swimming take place, and each group session is held for up to an hour. My role was to monitor and check in individuals for attendance and any behavioral issues. I was in direct communication with the participants and families concerns, compliments, and or feedback for the organization.
The second photo is me with a pariticpant who I recieved permission from family and him for usage of this photo. I grew close to this individual and assisted him with communicating his feelings and particiapting in activites.
Baseball
The following picture is of a participant actively participating in one of the events hosted by DSAOM. This event was for baseball in February, and I had similar responsibilities. These events were held for all age groups of multiple games of baseball throughout the day.
Canva Posts and Website
During my time at DSAOM, I was in charge of making social media content to educate members or potential members about upcoming events or any new information. These are some examples created for the website, Instagram, and Facebook.
The first was to promote "Soccer Clinic" which was created for the individuals interested in sports to practice their skills and drills.
The second, was an event hosted by DSAOM at the Miami Zoo for all to participate in whether networking or for fun. Lastly, the Picnic which was another event to gather everyone in the community.
I utilized the links and information that might be useful for anyone researching on Down Syndrome and how to overcome certain obstacles when first diagnosised. This is shown via website.
Other responsibilities
The undocumented work I was responsible for was communicating with current and potential sponsors about our program and communicate negotiations with who align with the mission and values of DSAOM, and seek their donations. This was crucial in creating events and funding our organization's ability to function effectively. My role is a Marketing Representative for Fundraising for Down Syndrome Association of Miami. These corporate sponsors include corporations, foundations, and families. I did this this by creating a realistic financial and budgeting plan to present to these donors for our main fundraising event Miracle walk, while also attempting to raise money for other upcoming events, and list the benefits for them participating as well. Including company awareness and advertisement throughout the organization and community.
